Jersey, The Channel Islands
Coastal retreat
A contemporary house overlooking the countryside and ocean of Jersey, The Channel Islands. Nestled in a backdrop of hills it is difficult to spot on approach, but the front elevations reveal 180-degree uninterrupted coastline views. Contemporary materials are cleverly combined with organic finishes, and expanses of glazing look over the everchanging landscape which our interiors needed to complement.
The core of the house has a stunning staircase clad with stone and timber. Glazed walls look out on the garden, and we softened these spaces with bespoke rugs, upholstered pieces and art to add colour. The addition of modern textured wallpapers throughout the house adds softness to the modern envelope.
In the main sitting room, our client chose an over-scaled sofa for his large family to join him in watching movies, we added zones for reading and sitting in smaller groups, a bar & amazing artwork too. The terrace beyond is furnished with Sutherland furniture and an eating area with huge umbrellas and awnings.
On the other side of the house, a large, interconnected kitchen, pantry, dining area and family room overlooks the pool. There is a study, a large cloakroom, utility rooms, a gym, and a wine room. Upstairs the main and guest suites enjoy uninterrupted views and all beds are placed to maximise views. Oak bedroom floors are softened with bespoke rugs from Tim Page Carpets and Tai Ping.
Throughout, curtaining has been kept simple so as not to block the extraordinary outlook. Electric blinds are placed behind unlined full-length curtains toned to compliment the outside.
