HOW JOINERY CAN TRANSFORM YOUR HOME

Joinery is a term that encompasses so much – it can span from a small shelving unit in a tricky corner through to a complete room lined with bookshelves, cupboards, or wardrobes.  Well-made and thoughtfully designed joinery can transform a room and improve the storage and ergonomic use of the space, however, it is a big investment and needs to be thoughtfully considered and executed well.

DESIGNED TO FIT

One of the key benefits of bespoke joinery is that it can be tailor-made to fit your space. No need to worry about measuring up before buying or worrying that it won’t fit – with a good design produced by a professional, which can then be handed on to a joiner, you can create something that fits perfectly, nook and crannies included. Scale and proportion need to be considered as well as the function of the joinery. It needs to look good but also deliver the requirements you have for storage.

FUNCTION FOR YOU

It is a good idea to do an audit of what you want to store and think about what sort of storage you are thinking of – open shelves, display niches, drawers, cubby holes, hook, hanging and hidden storage can all be incorporated when the joinery is bespoke.  We always draw up elevations as well as doing a floor-plan drawing and go through this in detail with our client before we hand it on to a craftsman to make. The joiner will then produce their own working drawings all which need to be careful checked to ensure all your requirements are met.

A PERFECT MATCH

Another benefit of bespoke joinery as opposed to buying ready-made is the endless choice. Sometimes it is almost too much, and this is where your designer can help. With different options of finishes available - painted, lacquered, timber choices, veneer options, incorporating metals & trims, inserting leathers & fabric - a professional can work with you to make the right selections for your particular needs. Does design come before durability? Does your joinery need to be super practical or super glamorous? Or perhaps you want to create something that perfectly blends with your existing scheme?

CREATIVE FEATURES

Once the main design is decided on, you then need to turn your attention to those little details that give your joinery its unique stamp. There are lots of amazing handles, knobs and pulls on the market to choose from. Incorporating clever lighting systems into joinery creates an added dimension and highlights shelves and niches. We often blend materials and textures too, to give our joinery designs a unique look – metal inlays set into timber & lacquer, fabric panels set into drawer fronts & table tops, fluted timbers mixed with smooth veneers, accent colours on lacquered sections of a timber run – all add a real design twist to the end results.
